C3NS The Computer Command & Control Networking System
The aim of The C3NS project is to produce a comprehensive enterprise wide system management, monitoring and configuration system for GNU/Linux, BSD and Solaris environments. C3NS will provide a single management front end to a range of utilities (both existing and in development) giving full control, oversight and accountability to its users.
EntApt The Enterprise Apt, a Software & Configuration Management System
EntApt is a configurable and customisable yet comprehensive IT solution in a box, geared toward small business. This project aims to provide a minimal Linux Distribution (Debian Stable) containing an extended configuration system. This will allow a small company to simply select which components that they require (Mail, Calendering, project management, databases, web, VOIP, firewall, IDS etc..) and have them installed across multiple machines, including both Desktops and Servers. Customisation will be possible at the start and then through an enterprise management system.
FSSP, The Free Sheffield Stock Photography
This project is the creation of a library of stock photography of Sheffield that can be used by anyone who needs it. It is aimed at businesses, organisations and other groups operating in Sheffield, but can be used by anyone for any purpose. The images are provided under license so please ensure that you read and agree to the license terms of this project before you use any of these images. All the images are made available free of charge and have been taken (and in some cases edited) by ictsc staff, so there are no copyright complications.
SpamEx2007, The Unsolicited Mail (Spam) Experiment 2007
This upcoming project will assess the various methods in use by popular websites to protect user email addresses from spam. In the last few years the techniques used by marketeers and spammers to gather mailing lists have become more and more complex, it is now extremely difficult to have your contact information available on the internet, whether in the clear, obfuscated or in a non public forum and not receive spam email.
We intend to look at a small sample of sites that take user email addresses and see how much spam is received by an email address that is only used to register with those sites. In time, and if we receive spam mails to those accounts. Once data has been received we intend to identify any patterns or common trends and publish a conclusion. Whist this experiment is not a strictly scientific, it may aid those sites sampled, and potentially other similar sites in their fight against the harvesting of contact details for the purpose of spamming.
